Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep recalled for balance shaft bearing issue

2013 Dodge Avenger

Chrysler has announced a recall that will affect vehicles in their Dodge, Jeep, as well as those bearing their own name. In all, only 522 vehicles will be a part of the latest Chrysler recall.

The vehicles include:

2013 Chrysler 200

2013 Dodge Avenger

2014 Jeep Patriot

2014 Jeep Compass

The reason for the recall is because of the abrasive debris that could be found in the balance shaft bearings. Over time, it could cause the engine oil pressure to drop, which could lead to engine failure. If the engine were to stall while driving, it could increase the risk of the vehicle being involved in an accident. Thus far, although only one fire has been reported, the Auburn Hills, Michigan automaker is looking into the matter, to see if the fire is related to the known defect.

The latest Chrysler recall will have dealership technicians replacing the engine balance shaft module at no charge to the registered owners. For more information, or to schedule a service appointment, one can contact their local Chrysler dealership. The recall is expected to begin via mail notification later this month.
