Don’t Roll Down Your Window! Your Toyota May Catch On Fire…

The NHTSA has expanded its recent investigation into the fires caused by the power window master switch in such vehicles as the 2007-2009 Toyota Camry, Camry Hybrid, RAV4, and the Yaris, as well as the 2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid (odd that the petrol version wasn’t included…surely they would share something as mundane as a power window switch). Thus far, there have been 9 injuries and 161 crashes or fires reported, but thankfully, no fatalities to report.

Initially, the recall included 830,000 Camrys and RAV4s, but with the recent expansion, that number swells to 1.4¬†million¬†units. If it does go to a recall, it will be one of the biggest this year, which will be another ding in Toyota’s perceived quality…

Actually, this investigation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis, which generally leads to a recall. Due to recent changes with the federal law, Toyota will now have to comply with the recall. Let’s hope that they don’t start to blame the customer…again…
