The latest GM recall involves several of their trucks, SUVs, and vans…about 55,000 in total.
The following 2013 model year vehicles that were assembled between November 7 through December 18, 2012 (many of these vehicles were built at the Arlington, Texas assembly plant) include:
- Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, and the Escalade EXT
- Chevrolet Avalanche, Express, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe
- GMC Savana, Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL
The issue at hand is that the vehicle may come out of “Park” whether or not the ignition is on, regardless if the key is in it or not. Generally speaking, in order to shift out of Park and into Reverse/Neutral/a forward gear, one must depress the brake pedal first. GM technicians will take a look to see whether or not the steering column lock module will need to be repaired/replaced. They will also inspect the park lock cable to see if it has been fractured. In either (or both) case, all necessary repairs will be replaced for free.
If you have not received your recall notice by now, you can contact your local Chevrolet, GMC, or Cadillac dealerships (in some areas, all three brands may be serviced by one dealership). They will be able to advise you as to whether or not your vehicle has been involved in the latest GM recall, and if it has, they will schedule an appointment with you to bring the vehicle in as soon as possible.
In the meantime, try to not park it on an incline or decline.
