Honda recalls Pilots and Odysseys for engine issue

2013 Honda Odyssey

Honda is recalling their popular Pilot sport utility vehicle, as well as their Odyssey minivan, for an engine issue. With the Pilot, both the 2WD and 4WD versions are affected. In all, only 270 2013 model year vehicles are involved.

The recall is a result of manufacturing process of the engine piston. During the process, the heat treatment may not have been properly applied. The result is the pistons may not have the insufficient hardness necessary to operate properly, which could lead to premature wear and tear. Over time, a malfunctioning piston could lead to engine failure while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of an accident. Thus far, no accidents or injuries have been reported.

The latest Honda recall will have the affected vehicles’ engine block inspected and replaced, at no charge to the registered owners. Although the recall is expected to begin on September 16, 2013, owners can contact their local Honda dealer for more information.
