After the demise of the Jaguar X-Type, the Coventry automaker has been without a small entry-level vehicle to take on the stalwarts of the industry, BMW’s 3-Series and Mercedes Benz’s C-Class. Now with the introductions of the midsized XF sedan, flagship XJ sedan, and the XK convertible and coupe, Jaguar can now concentrate on creating a small luxury sedan that will ultimately be their volume seller, as well as increase their overall fuel economy rating.
With the sedan, tentatively dubbed the XS, due to hit the market in 2015, it it expected that there will be coupe and wagon variants to compete with the aforementioned vehicles, as well as Audi’s A4 and A5. According to Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar’s global brand director, there will be an emphasis on styling that will take cues from the recently introduced C-X17 crossover concept, itself a preview of Jaguar’s first crossover. The combination of the two vehicles are poised to help bolster Jaguar’s sales totals, which stood at 357, 773 units last year.
