Mitsubishi is recalling their iconic Lancer Evolution sports sedan today for an issue with the transmission. In all, vehicles that were produced from December 12, 2007 to March 5, 2013, which totals to approximately 10,474, will be affected. The only Evos affected are the Lancer Evolution X GSR, which are equipped with the manual transmission, as this does not affect those equipped with the SST transmission.
The cause for the recall has to do with the clutch master cylinder, which has been determine to fail prematurely (Mitsubishi did not state specifically what the failure was). The result is that this could make shifting gears more difficult, which could increase the risk of the vehicle being involved in an accident. Thus far, the Japanese automaker has not reported any accidents or injuries as a result of the defect.
The latest Mitsubishi recall will have owners scheduling a service appointment with their local Mitsubishi dealer to have the necessary repairs made, at no charge. The recall is expected to begin by mail notification on November 11, 2013.
