What happens when you post something online at the right time?

I’ll generally provide advice for those that are looking to get started in the online marketing world. Usually, I’ll provide job-seeking advice, but for those that are looking to go on their own, I can consult as well. That can range anywhere from website design, to copywriting/SEO, and especially social media.

I have advised numerous people about utilising Facebook to their advantage. I personally prefer using Facebook because it’s a lot more personal, as opposed to twitter (although twitter is good for getting your message broadcasted to a wider audience, as well as targeting celebrities). One person in particular is a good friend of mine named Keith Allen.

Keith is currently a freelance DJ and videographer that has shot a number of parody videos, using current songs as a base for his own, and pairing them up with things in the fantasy niche. His current one is titled “Dark Lord Funk – Harry Potter Parody of “Uptown Funk“.

But that isn’t the point of this story.

I had noticed that Keith had posted something on Facebook about the premiere of this video, and I immediately sent him a message, consulting him on when would be the best time to post it. He had stated that he wanted to post it in the evening, but I had advised against it.

Thankfully, he took my advice and posted it at the right time. The results speak for themselves:

I had woke up that morning to see a bunch of his friends tagging him in their posts about his video, since it was the first thing that they saw whenever they got on Facebook. As the day progressed, I saw that it was trending on Facebook, as well as getting picked up by MTV, Huffington Post, and IGN. As of this writing, the total number of views for this video was around 750,000. This puts it in second place to his parody video “Talk Nerdy to Me”:

All of this is to illustrate a point that I make on a near-daily basis…if you want your message to reach the right people and go viral, then when you post it on social media is critical to your success.
